Trekking and Camping Places in Palakkad
Palakkad is known as “Gateway of Kerala,” which is border district to Tamil Nadu, very famous for paddy fields, scenic hills, and historical Palakkad Fort. The district is also home to Silent Valley National Park and the beautiful Nelliyampathy Hills, offering great spots for trekking and camping.

Silent Valley National Park: A UNESCO World Heritage site, this park offers excellent trekking opportunities through forests. Located in the Northeast corner of Palakkad district, Silent Valley was called ‘Sairandhrivanam’ as it was here that Sairandhiri is believed to have hidden along with her five husbands, the Pandavas, while escaping their cruel cousins, the Kauravas.

Dhoni Hills: A popular trekking and picnic spot near Palakkad town, This is 4 km-long trekking trail. At the top, you can camp and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscape and Dhoni Waterfalls. The trek from the base area to Malampuzha and Meenavallam and Dhoni waterfalls is very interesting.

Nelliyampathy Hills: Often called the “Ooty of Kerala,” Nelliyampathy is a very beautiful hill station which offers various trekking trails. Camping in the hills provides nice views of tea and coffee plantations and forests. To reach Nelliyampathy, one has to take the road starting from Nenmara that proceeds to the Pothundy Dam.

Parambikulam Tiger Reserve: Located in the Chittur Taluk of Palakkad district, Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is a protected area in the shades of the Western Ghats..
